What an exciting day!
What a day! On November 6, 2020, we had 35 young people graduate from our Dr. John Chacha Secondary School - and City of Hope was abuzz with excitement as our band led the graduating students, all in their smartest clothing, out to our meeting venue, Freedom Square!
More than one thousand people from the community attended the graduation ceremony, making it the biggest gathering we have ever held. “It was a great event,” Hudson Mahare, our Country Director, shared. “At special celebrations like this, we kill a cow so that we can feed everyone. The cow was completely eaten!”
These students have done so well. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our schools were closed for three months, yet, thanks to the perseverance that these young people have demonstrated, as well as the dedication of their teachers to help prepare them for their examinations, they have been able to achieve their goals.
We believe that providing young people with a quality education is a critical component in helping them break free from extreme poverty. We are encouraged by the tenacity shown by our graduates, and we look forward to seeing how God will work in their lives in the future! Please keep them in your prayers as they pursue their dreams!
