Abundant Grace, Amazing Impact, Changed Lives: A Review of 2021

Celebrating Abundant Grace!

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.’’ (Colossians 3:16)

This has been our experience at City of Hope this year. We have enjoyed an abundant supply of the Lord’s grace, compassion, and provision. Our hearts are filled with gratitude and joy as we remember YOU, our dear friends, supporters, sponsors, and partners in ministry. Thank you!

Because of your generosity, love, and support, orphans and vulnerable children have nutritious food to eat, a safe place to sleep, and an education. Thanks to your support, women receive the skills that empower them and their families to live dignified lives. Because you care, we send young people to college and provide medical care to our local community. Thank you!

Our water challenges came to an end this year as we installed a water tank and tower. We also completed constructing twelve new apartments for our teachers, who can now focus fully on equipping our children. Thank you! In 2022, we are excited about launching the new safe house in Kenya. Many hurting girls will benefit from the love, safety, and counseling that they will receive. We also look forward to completing the student dormitories. Pray with me that the Lord will provide all financial and human resources needed - and that our children and staff will experience even more of God’s favor. THANK YOU!

 Celebrating Amazing Impact!

Thanks to your support, here’s the impact that we can celebrate together:

  • 94 children received protection and quality care in our children’s home during 2021.

  • During a government inspection, we were rated one of the top children’s homes in the whole country for the quality of care we provide.

  • Destiny Primary School was ranked 12th out of 663 schools in the region, and Dr. John Chacha Secondary School was ranked 58th in the whole of Tanzania.

  • 3,623 people were treated at Amani Medical Center during the first nine months of 2021, with more than one-third of these visits being for malaria.

  • 103 babies were successfully delivered at Amani Medical Center over the same nine-month period, with more than 4,500 child health consultations provided.

  • The first graduates from our secondary school have now finished college and are serving in teaching and medical professions.

  • City of Hope now has a constant supply of water for the first time – and we have finished the construction of our first secondary school dorm and teacher housing.

  • Because of your generosity, we are in the process of purchasing a new tractor – more on this soon!

  • For the first time in our community, three weddings were held where the bride had not undergone female genital mutilation – this is a significant breakthrough.

  • We had our first three graduates from our new Women’s Empowerment Program in Kenya – they are now able to earn an income and provide for their families.

  • Our first girl was rescued in Kenya, with her abuser imprisoned for life thanks to HopeCo and our partners.

Your partnership is giving hope and a future to many children and young people – thank you!

Celebrating Changed Lives!

I made my first visit to City of Hope this past fall. It was a trip that I will never forget. From the moment I arrived to a thunderous welcome from the children and staff, to the lively dance party on my final evening (and the children dance far better than I ever could!), I was constantly reminded of God’s amazing power that brings hope and joy out of dark and painful circumstances. City of Hope is a place where His presence is seen and experienced, every day!

It is challenging to condense in just a few words the impact that City of Hope is having in the lives of these children. But a few things stood out for me:

FAITH: This is what drives us. We believe that it is Jesus alone who truly changes lives forever – and it is evident that He is at the heart of every program and each decision taken by the leadership at City of Hope. It was humbling to see our children and staff together, engaging in worship, committed to prayer, and growing in relationship with a Savior who loves them so very much.

EMPOWERMENT: At HopeCo, we are committed to helping each person we serve reach their full, God-given potential. Our kids thrive in school as they learn skills that will last them a lifetime, and they are flourishing as they are nurtured and mentored by their teachers, caregivers, and other staff.

LEADERSHIP: Everything rises and falls on leadership. Our children are learning leadership skills that will enable them to become the positive changemakers that their families, workplaces, churches, communities – and their nation – so badly need. And what positive role models they have at City of Hope! Our leadership team in East Africa is godly, committed to pursuing excellence, and is doing an outstanding job of leading the program forward under challenging circumstances.

Thank you for your partnership in helping our children grow their faith in Christ, reach their full potential, and develop the leadership skills that will help them impact their communities for the better. As child sponsors and financial supporters, as team members or volunteers, and as those who pray faithfully for our work, your fingerprints are seen everywhere at City of Hope! I am grateful for you and your commitment to give hope and a future to these precious children!
